Delete your ChoreSplit account
This page explains how to delete your account and data for ChoreSplit: Family Chore Chart, published by Modlific. It lists the steps, exactly what is deleted, and what is kept and for how long.
How to request account deletion
- 1Open ChoreSplit on your phone, or sign in at choresplit.com.
- 2Tap your profile picture in the top bar, then tap Settings.
- 3Scroll to the bottom of Settings, to the section headed Danger zone.
- 4Tap Delete account. A dialog opens and lists exactly what will be removed from your account.
- 5Type your account email address in the confirmation box.
- 6Tap Delete my account permanently. The deletion happens immediately.
Deletion is permanent and immediate. There is no grace period, no recovery window, and no way for us to restore an account afterwards. Export anything you want to keep before you confirm.
Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play or App Store subscription
If you subscribed inside the Android or iPhone app, the store owns that subscription. Our server has no way to cancel it, so it keeps renewing after your account is gone and you would have no way back into the app to stop it. Cancel it in the store yourself, before or after you delete the account.

A subscription bought on choresplit.com is different: deleting your account cancels it immediately and you are not billed again.
What is deleted
Removed from our database immediately when you confirm. Retention period: none.
Your account and profile
Name, email address, password, and any Google or Apple sign-in link.
Your family, if it is yours alone
The family record and every member in it, including the members you created for children, their names, avatars, ages and logins.
Chores and completion history
Every chore, recurring schedule, weekly assignment, completion, comment, streak, point total and badge.
Rewards and balances
Rewards, reward goals, point balances, gift card redemptions, redemption approvals, card records and the spending ledger.
Chore verification photos and video
Every photo or video submitted to prove a chore was done, and the AI feedback written about it.
Projects
Projects, project templates, project updates and any public share links you created.
Google Calendar access
Access and refresh tokens, sync settings and the mapping between chores and calendar events. We stop reading and writing your calendar.
Messages and devices
Notifications, push notification device registrations, pending family invitations, password reset codes and API keys.
Email list
Your entry on the newsletter list, if you were on it.
What is kept, and for how long
These are the only things that survive deletion, and why.
A shared family, if other people are still in it
Kept for as long as those members keep their accounts
If you joined a family somebody else created, that family's chores, rewards and history belong to the people staying in it, so they are not deleted. Your own membership, points, photos and personal records are. Comments you wrote stay on the tasks they belong to but no longer show your name. If you created a family and other people have their own accounts in it, the app asks you to remove them before it will delete anything at all.
Purchase and payment records
Up to 7 years, as tax and accounting rules require
Money that changed hands is recorded by the payment processors, not only by us: Stripe for web subscriptions, Apple for App Store purchases, Google for Play purchases. Those records are held by those companies under their own retention policies and we cannot delete them for you.
App store subscription receipts
Retained indefinitely
The notifications Google Play and the App Store send our server when a subscription renews, lapses or is refunded are kept. Each one carries a store transaction id and a notification id, not your name, email or any content. They exist so a redelivered notification cannot be processed twice, and they are the only record we hold of a store purchase.
Anonymised usage counts
Retained indefinitely, with identifiers removed at deletion
Counts such as 'a signup happened on this date' are kept so historical totals do not silently change. At deletion the account id and family id on those rows are erased, so nothing in them points back at you.
Encrypted database backups
No more than 30 days
Routine encrypted backups can still contain a copy until they age out. They are never used to restore a deleted account, and no copy of your data remains after that window.
